More than 150 Asian-Games-bound athletes joined the Singapore edition of the Hangzhou Fun Run set around the Singapore Sports Hub on Feb 25, local media outlets reported.

The event, organized by the Olympic Council of Asia and the Singapore National Olympic Council, was designed to promote the Hangzhou Asian Games, which were postponed and will now be held from Sept 23 to Oct 8 this year.

The OCA has been organizing a series of fun runs in different Asian cities since 2004 to promote the Asian Games.

Besides Singapore, the Hangzhou Fun Run also recently visited communities in Uzbekistan, Thailand, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and plans to visit the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Qatar.

Participants from the ActiveSG Academies, Team Nila and community walking groups joined Singapore athletes specializing in 12 sports including archery, baseball, softball, sailing and contract bridge in a 3-kilometer run.

Ryan Lo, a Singapore sailor and Asian Games bronze medalist in 2010 and 2018, has his sights set on Hangzhou 2022 and the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“My teammates and I are looking forward to competing in Hangzhou,” he said. “The sailing conditions won’t be easy and it will be very competitive. Nonetheless, we are all putting in our best efforts and I am certain that Hangzhou will offer up an impressive Asian Games.”
